Ghana

Ghana is a beautiful country with a rich and diverse culture and has the most friendliest people you will encounter anywhere in the world. Ghana economically is one of the most sucessful countries in West-Africa.

History

The Republic of Ghana is named after the medieval Ghana Empire of West Africa. The actual name of the Empire was Wagadugu. Ghana was the title of the kings who ruled the kingdom. It wa controlled by Sundiata in 1240 AD, and absorbed into the larger Mali Empire.

Geographically, the old Ghana is 500 miles north of the present Ghana, and occupied the area between Rivers Senegal and Niger.

4000 B.C. Oldest date for pottery at Stone Age site near Accra.

100 B.C. Early Iron Age at Tema, near Accra.

Modern Ghana comprises of several tribes, with a multiplicity of languages, however the most common language or the lingua franca of Ghana is English.
